Close friend and former goalkeeper Carlos Padrao has revealed Jorge Jesus had an agreement in the past to coach Barcelona.
Jorge Jesus is currently in charge of Brazilian champions Flamengo.
"I know there was a presidential candidate at Barcelona who was in touch with Jorge and they came to an agreement, but in the end he lost the elections," Padrao told TSF.
"I spoke to Jorge a week ago, I sent him my congratulation for renewing with Flamengo. After, we spoke for an hour.
"Now he's at one of the biggest clubs in the world with 30 or 40 million followers and he's prepared to coach the Brazilian national team.
"Being Brazil's national team coach and the first foreigner to do so is better than coaching Real Madrid, Barcelona, Benfica or Porto."
