Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl would not be drawn on speculation of a move for Mohammed Salisu.
The centre-back is a Valladolid player in Spain, and he is being linked for a summer move.
Spanish reports claim he is on his way to the St. Mary's stadium club, and he has a release clause of £10.9 million.
Asked about the matter by reporters, Hasenhuttl said: "That's right that we are looking on this position, but I don't want to discuss rumours.
"We always have players in our mind, especially in the centre-back position.
"It's a position we want to do something in."
