Local Labor MP Kate Osborne has called on the Premier League to make a decision over the proposed takeover of Newcastle United.
Osborne has demanded the Premier League make a ruling either way on the proposed Saudi takeover of Newcastle – because fans in her constituency are suffering mental anguish, anger and stress.
The £300m deal to oust Mike Ashley has stalled over serious piracy issues and confusion over the ownership structure of the new regime.
Osborne, quoted by the Mirror, wrote to Prem chief exec Richard Masters, stating: “North East football supporters are under mental anguish due to the proposed Newcastle takeover.
“I am not writing to pressure you to make a decision one way or the other... Newcastle fans have been put through an unnecessary rollercoaster which is causing anger and stress in the communities I represent.
“I represent thousands of Newcastle United supporters who after 16 weeks of waiting continue to be on tenterhooks to hear the decision that will determine their club's future.
“Football is a passion and means a lot to people in the area. Football supporters spend a lot of hard earned money on their club.
“The length of time this is taking is putting immense stress on many Newcastle fans across the constituency of Jarrow. I have been contacted by a number of constituents.
“One saying: "I don't actually care anymore if the takeover goes ahead... just tell me when that “whenever" will be so we can stop the constant news and social media checking."
