Atletico Madrid are making a move for departing Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen.
Now a free agent, a move to the continent appears likely for the Belgium international.
AS Roma have been linked with Vertonghen and Il Messaggero says Diego Simeone's Atletico have also expressed interest. Simeone already counts on former Spurs fullback Kieran Trippier as part of his defence.
Roma, meanwhile, see Vertonghen as an alternative if Chris Smalling is forced to return to Manchester United after his successful loan.
Vertonghen leaves Spurs this month after eight years with the London giants.
