Kota Kinabalu: Unlike Brunei Darussalam whose Sultan had to Sabah for food assistance during the lockdown, there was no report on food shortage by residents in Sabah during the Movement Control Order (MCO) imposed throughout Malaysia from March 18 for the Covd-19 pandemic.

This has boosted Sabah’s reputation as a food producing basket for Malaysia and beyond. Nevertheless, during the initial months of the MCO, there was a problem of dumping of unsold farm produce due to lack of demand or buyers.

This problem would be eventually solved by the government and agencies with the setting up of six collection and marketing centres in identified districts (Sipitang, Keningau, Kota Marudu, Lahad Datu, Kundasang Ranau and Telupid) as a long-term solution with allocation of RM13.21 million to build them.
