A 43-year-old man was fined RM1,000 or one month jail on Monday for having illegal gambling paraphernalia.Teh Boon Teong pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having four slips of illegal lottery at 5.45pm on June 23 last year in front of a shoplot at Country Height Plaza, off Jalan Kasigui-Minintod, in Penampang. Inspector Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit, prosecuted, informed the court that Teh was detained by police for having the lottery slips as well as RM287 in cash.

Teh was charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act carries a jail term of up to six months, or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction. The court ordered the seized money to be forfeited. In another case, six people were penalised for committing drug-related offences. Three men pleaded guilty to having syabu.

They were Mal Abdul Raub, Jimar Ani and Omar Kiram, who admitted to having the drugs weighing between 2.58gm and 0.04gm. Mal was sentenced to 14 months’ jail while Jimar and Omar were handed nine months’ jail each. They were charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both on conviction. The other three were Md Firdaus Annuar, Eddie Larrent and Mcvelon Lee pleaded guilty to taking syabu. Firdaus was fined RM2,000 or six months jail while Eddie and Lee were jailed eight months each. Taking drugs under Section 15(1) of the of the Dangerous Drug Act provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail on conviction.
