BEAUFORT:

District Police Chief DSP Azmir Abd Razak reminded the people here that the independence enjoyed today is not obtained without sacrifices from those in the past.

“How many security forces, whether the police or the army, were killed during the colonial period and even civilians wanted to be free from further occupation,” he said when officiating the Merdeka @ Komuniti Programme, organised by the District Information Department, at Kg Kukut, here.

He said people cannot be complacent with the peaceful situation today and should always be vigilant because independence cannot be defended if the people don’t defend the country from being invaded by evil elements.
