28 people infected with chikungunya in Kulim

ALOR SETAR: Some 28 people in two localities in Kulim have been infected with chikungunya, said Kedah health director Dr Mohd Fikri Ujang.

He said the first locality was detected at Flat Jati on Sept 2, involving 23 people so far, with the other five people infected with the disease detected last Sunday at Taman Sawi.

“All of them showed various symptoms such as fever, joint pain and rashes. The outbvreak at the flat is expected to end tomorrow and at Taman Sawi on Oct 12.

“However, we will continue to the situation at the two localities to ensure no new cases. We have also taken preventive measures and the situation is currently under control,” he told Bernama here.

Meanwhile, Dr Mohd Fikri advised those living in the affected localities to seek treatment immediately at the nearby health centre if they experience any symptoms such as fever, dizziness and joint pain.

“The public is also advised to conduct self-inspection at home and eliminate Aedes breeding grounds besides using the aerosol spray in the house between 6 am to 8 am and 6 pm to 8 pm when Aedes is most active,” he added.
