Kota Kinabalu:

Roadblocks and road closures implemented in Tawau and Lahad Datu are a common extension of the existing “Op Penawar” in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19, said Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) Friday.

Responding to a question on whether the roadblocks would mean stricter restrictions after a spike in the numbers of positive Covid-19 cases recorded in Tawau and Lahad Datu, he said such roadblocks are based on the discretion of the local security enforcement agencies.

He said the control measures implemented are a new concept, called Targeted Enhanced Movement Control Order (Targeted Emco), to curb the spread of Covid-19, which is carried out in selected areas on the advice of the Ministry of Health (MOH).
