Kuala Lumpur:
A sum of RM11.5 million has been allocated this year for the project to provide treated water supply to Kuala Penyu District in the interior of Sabah, according to Rural Development Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad (pic).He said the project involving 23 villages will benefit some 1,500 people in about 300 houses in the district. At the same time, he said the Ministry was also in the midst of implementing two rural water supply (BALB) projects in Kuala Penyu with a total cost of RM131 million under the 11th Malaysia Plan.

“The first one, the Pekan Menumbok BALB project costing RM55 million, is now under construction and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of next year. “The other one costing RM76 million is now in the design phase and is expected to begin construction in the second quarter of 2022,” he said in a statement.

Abdul Latiff said the projects were hoped to ensure that residents in Kuala Penyu district would be able to enjoy undisrupted clean and treated water supply with adequate quantity and pressure of water. He said the Ministry would also ensure basis amenities including water supply in the rural areas, especially in Sabah, will continue to be prioritised in the 12th Malaysia Plan.

“Apart from that, the Ministry will also repair the community hall in Kampung Tenambak with an estimated cost of RM200,000 which is expected to be implemented by early 2021,” he added.
