After completing his jail sentence, Alun was ordered referred to the Immigration Department. During mitigation, counsel Mohd Luqman Syazwan who defended Alun on pro-bono basis, asked for a lenient sentence saying that Alun had repented his wrongdoing and that it was Alun’s first offence. Luqman said Alun was the breadwinner of his family with an income between RM600 and RM800. However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Amirah Muhammad Ali urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence on the grounds that Alun had committed a serious offence in which he had used fake notes as genuine.
