The Greek veteran is out of contract next summer, and the Gunners are willing to facilitate a sale.
The Evening Standard reports they would be happy to get his £90,000-a-week wages off the books as well.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed they are chasing Sokratis, and it is a move that could lead to Kalidou Koulibaly's transfer to Manchester City.
"We are working on signing Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Arsenal, we consider it an option," De Laurentiis is quoted as saying by IlNapoliOnline.com.
