14 drug-related cases adjourned to December

Kota Kinabalu: A total of 14 cases of people charged with committing drug-related offences have been adjourned to December for another mention date.

Their cases came up for hearing at the Magistrate’s Court here on Wednesday but their cases have been rescheduled due to the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).

Ten of them were charged with taking syabu as framed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail on conviction.

Meanwhile, another four accused were charged with having syabu as framed under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both on conviction.

The chemist’s reports of their cases were ready and the court set Dec 1 for the next mention date for 13 of them. The other accused had his case mentioned on Nov 19 pending a probation report.

Pending the mention date, nine of the accused were ordered to be remanded further The other five, who were on court bail, were released on an extended bail.
