Kota Kinabalu: The Perikatan Nasional government should absorb the opposition into the Cabinet as the move could bring stability at a time when the country is battling the Covid-19 pandemic, says Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia (pic)

The former Dewan Rakyat speaker said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should consider a “unity government” as the current political climate was not the right time for snap polls.

Pandikar Amin said the latest bid by Pakatan Harapan to form the next government also casts doubt on whether Budget 2021 could be passed after the tabling in Parliament, scheduled for Nov 6.

“If Parliament fails to approve the budget, there are two options for the Perikatan government.

“Either dissolve Parliament under Article 43(2) or suspend it under Article 55(2) for the general safety of all Malaysians to avoid a general election being called during this current period,” he said.

But Pandikar Amin pointed out that the suspension should not be an excuse to prolong the Perikatan government.

“As proof that the Perikatan government is serious and committed to tackle the pandemic, it is best for them to undertake a reshuffle and invite some opposition leaders to be part of the Cabinet,” he said. This way, Pandikar Amin said there would be less politicking until the Covid-19 situation improved.
