LABUAN: Public gatherings in Labuan, including seminars, workshops, training courses, conferences, briefings and exhibitions, are banned in Labuan in response to the Covid-19 outbreak that has entered its third wave with a total of 92 confirmed cases to date here.Labuan National Security Council Director Nurzaliza Kartika Abdullah (pic) said the ban also applied to activities related to Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (Mice). She said ongoing internal training programmes could still be conducted, however, it should be strictly confined to the compound of the respective training centres.

“Face-to-face meetings are not encouraged and video conferencing is preferred. Official and unofficial gathering ceremonies by government or private sectors are also prohibited. “Social gatherings like ‘kenduri-kendara’, weddings and engagement ceremonies, ‘majlis aqiqah’, recital, tahlil, anniversaries, birthday celebrations and reunions are also prohibited,” she said to reporters during a briefing on the standard operating procedures (SOP) during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in Labuan from Oct 17-30.

Nurzaliza Kartika added that tourism activities to and from CMCO-gazetted areas were also prohibited. “Indoor activities, picnics, swimming pool activities, activities that involve physical-touching, group sports, tournaments and sports games with an audience are not allowed during the CMCO,” she said.
