Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has moved to reassure recent signing Alex Runarsson about his game time.

The back up shot-stopper was expected to play cup games for the Gunners, but it was Bernd Leno in goal for the team as they beat Liverpool on penalties in the Carabao Cup.

Now the Gunners are in the quarter finals, and Arteta believes Runarsson will get chances to play this season.

It is a matter of the player settling into his new club and gaining full fitness before he can be considered a starting option.

"Obviously when Emi left we were looking for a second goalkeeper," said Arteta to reporters.

"We were in the market. It took a little longer than expected to get that position filled in.

"So Alex came in. He has only been with us a week and he had a small issue as well. It is time, things will evolve.

"Alex will be more comfortable here and they will both play."
