Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy admits he almost quit the game after being released by French Third Division Cherbourg.
Mendy spent a year out of the game before eventually working his way back up the French football pyramid.
"A year without football is an incredibly long time and I had many doubts during that period," said Mendy.
"But it was thanks to my family that made me stay strong.
"I hesitated before a continuation, but now I look at it and say that it is thanks to my family that I have come here."
