AC Milan chief exec Ivan Gazidis has defended their transfer policy.

Gazidis' former coaching target Ralf Rangnick has repeatedly criticised the club for signing veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in January.

But the Milan chief says, "We must have a strategy that keeps our costs under control, while improving our performance on the pitch, through the use of data analysists, scouting and through our resources, such as Paolo Maldini.

"Furthermore, we need a vertical football with young and technically strong players. It is said that the Italian championship is for old people, but we have a team with a very low average age and with an experienced leader like Ibrahimovic."
