Arsenal outcast Mesut Ozil is being linked with a move to MLS.

The Mirror says with nine months remaining on his current contract, and Mikel Arteta's reluctance to field the former Germany international in any of his first-team fixtures, the club may explore the possibility of paying off the 31-year-old this January.

In doing so, Özil would be free to join any club, with a move to the United States 'likely' according to Mirror Sport. Özil has most recently been axed from the club's 25-man Europa League squad this week, damaging any slim hopes he may have had of featuring in first-team action this season.

It is not clear which MLS clubs would be able to afford Özil's £350,000-per-week wage package, but Arsenal are hoping to offload him sooner rather than later, in order to avoid paying him the £13m he is owed should he run down his contract.
