Watford are actively seeking a buyer for Troy Deeney.
Le Progres says Watford offered Deeney to St Etienne on transfer deadline day on Monday.
However, after being contacted about Deeney's availability, St Etienne didn't follow up the approach as the deadline fell.
Deeney could yet be on the move in the coming weeks, with England's domestic transfer window still open.
The Hornets captain has been linked with Southampton and Crystal Palace this summer.
