The father of Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara admits PSG also wanted him.

Thiago joined Liverpool this summer from Bayern Munich.

But Dad Mazinho told France Football: "I had talked to (PSG's sports director) Leonardo some time ago, but it was for Thiago. Leonardo wanted to sign him for PSG, but Thiago already had an agreement with Liverpool."

Mazinho then revealed talks led to Thiago's younger brother Rafinha, formerly of Barcelona.

"We then talked about Rafa, but he was not part of Leonardo's plans at the time. When he started talking again, Leonardo had changed. And everything took off on the last day. It was on Monday so we had to work hard to convince both clubs. We were scared, but thankfully, five or six hours before the deadline, we reached an agreement.

"Leonardo wanted Thiago, he got Rafinha. And for Rafa, it was a dream to go to such a club."
