VfB Stuttgart football chief Sven Mislintat hopes to bring Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips back to Germany in January.
Phillips spent last season on-loan with VfB, helping them win promotion back to the Bundesliga.
But after losing Phillips back to Liverpool before the start of the new campaign, Mislintat struck a verbal agreement with his Reds counterparts to revisit the defender's situation in January.
With Phillips off contract in June, Mislintat plans to take the 23 year-old stopper on a six-month loan with the aim of signing him outright next summer. VfB had hoped to buy Phillips this year, but lacked the spending power to meet Liverpool's demands.
Phillips made his full Premier League debut a fortnight ago in Liverpool's win over West Ham.
