Lens president Gervais Martel has revealed a classy gesture from Real Madrid counterpart Florentino Perez two years ago.
Lens sold Raphael Varane to Real for €10m in 2010, plus bonuses including Champions League titles.
Varane's four triumphs have netted Lens €2m, but Real were could've pulled back from paying out the bonuses in 2018 after negotiating a new deal with the Frenchman.
Martel, speaking to La Voix du Nord, admits he requested the €500,000 due from the original deal after Real's 2018 Champions League triumph.
"We wrote a letter to Florentino Perez. His response was positive. It was a gesture of such class on his part ... A gesture of greatness, quite simply!" he recalled.
