Covid-19 recoveries outpace infections after record-1,345 discharges

PUTRAJAYA: There was a record-high of 1,345 Covid-19 patients discharged in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of those discharged to 29,579.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 972 new cases, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 41,181.

There were 967 local infections and five imported cases.

There are currently 11,308 patients being treated. Eighty-six are in intensive care, with 31 requiring respiratory assistance.

At a press conference, Noor Hisham also said there were eight new deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities to 294.

The bulk of the new cases came from Sabah (370), Negeri Sembilan (260), Selangor (137), Labuan (63), Perak (51), Penang (34), Kuala Lumpur (20), Kedah (8), Johor (8), Melaka (5), Putrajaya (5), Sarawak (4) and Kelantan (2).

The new cases involved those from clusters, close contacts of positive cases and other screenings.

The latest deaths involved seven patients in Sabah and one in Labuan, aged between 1 and 72. Six of the eight, including the one-year-old, suffered from other illnesses.

The one-year-old boy who died in Sandakan, Sabah, had a hole in his heart and suffered from Down Syndrome and hypothyroidism.

They comprised six Malaysians — five men and one woman — and two foreign women.
