Kota Kinabalu: The State Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry is aiming to increase Sabah’s rice production self-sufficiency level (SSL) to 60 per cent by 2030 from 25 per cent this year.Its Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan who is also Deputy Chief Minister said rice production will continue to be intensified by increasing the area of paddy cultivation to meet the domestic needs of rice. “The Agriculture Department is targeting 29,550 hectares of paddy fields that received ploughing subsidy in 2021,” he said during the Ministry’s winding-up at the State Legislative Assembly sitting.

The Ministry, he said, is reviewing the re-establishment of the Sabah Padi Board (LPS) which was approved previously.
