Kota Kinabalu: The State Government should push forward to help the local tourism industry by giving them bigger grants and low interest rate loans expediently, according to Tanjung Papat Assemblyman, Datuk Frankie Poon.

“The current Covid-19 pandemic is an excellent time to intensely promote local tourism. Give incentives to them and locals to encourage civil servants to travel to local tourism spots. Indirectly jobs are created or at the very least help to retain staff in this industry,” he said.

He said this when debating the 2021 State Budget at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, here, Monday.

While noting the Chief Minister’s 2021 State Budget speech which estimates 1.3 million tourists arrival if Sabah reopens her borders, Poon questioned if there are contingency plans lined up in case a tourist has symptoms of Covid-19 or other illness.
