AirAsia deserves help, must repay loan: Shafie

Kota Kinabalu: The State Government should consider helping a low-cost airline AirAsia that promised to make Sabah its hub in the region, said Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (pic).

 He said AirAsia could help to revive Sabah’s tourism as the airline did bring four million tourists to the country, before and has the accessibility to do so.

 Following positive outlook on Sabah that would benefit the tourism industry, he said the State government gave a loan of RM300 million via Sabah Development Board (SDB) to AirAsia to materialise its promise here.

 “I think the State government should not depend on the national air carrier, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) as now it only has one flight from here to Tawau and several flights from here to Kuala Lumpur.
