Leicester City defender Jonny Evans is set to sign a new deal.
The Ulsterman has been linked with a return to former club Manchester United.
But Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers said: "I hear from the club that it is quite close.
"We are very hopeful that we will be able to complete the agreement very soon.
"It may be earlier than that (January), we'll just wait and see. I know that Jonny's representatives and the club are very close."
