Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) said it will defend the Batu Sapi parliamentary and Bugaya state seats in their respective by-elections for the constituencies. Its President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said they will make the necessary preparations to ensure both seats are retained by the party. “In the near future, we will be facing by-elections whether in Batu Sapi or Bugaya. We will ensure to get support from all party members to defend both seats,” he said during the party’s 2019 general assembly, here, Saturday.

The Batu Sapi by-election, which was scheduled for Dec 4, has been postponed following a declaration of state of emergency following the worrying Covid-19 situation. As for the Bugaya seat, the Election Commission has set Jan 4 as nomination day, to be followed with early voting on Jan 12 and polling day on Jan 16. Both by-elections are being held due to vacancies brought about by the deaths of Batu Sapi incumbent Datuk Liew Vui Keong on Oct 2 and Bugaya’s Datin Manis Muka Dara on Nov 17.

Meanwhile, Shafie said Warisan has never followed Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) dictate despite both being in the opposition bloc. “Warisan is not a member within PH, instead, Warisan and PH formed the government together after the 14th General Election. “Therefore, there is no question about Warisan following orders and becoming a puppet to any leader or their parties,” he added.
