PUTRAJAYA: Malaysian Football League (MFL) President Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin (pic) has confirmed low-cost airline AirAsia’s return as one of the Malaysia League (M-League) sponsors next season.

Hamidin, who is also the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president, said he was informed of this by AirAsia Group Chief Executive Officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes during a meeting, recently.

He said the MFL was in the midst of trying to get more sponsors for the 2021 season, apart from hinting at the possibility that the CIMB Group Holdings Berhad might resume its cooperation with the M-League administration.

“We’ve met and held discussions, he (Tony Fernandes) confirmed that AirAsia will renew its sponsorship… there may be one or two additional subsidies from them. Tan Sri Tony has agreed to it and more information will be announced,” he told a press conference after chairing the 4th MFL Partnership meeting here, Wednesday.

AirAsia, which was the exclusive and official airline for the M-League from 2019 to 2020, and CIMB, which was the main sponsor for the 2020 Super League, had previously decided not to renew their sponsorships for the new M-League season.

Meanwhile, Hamidin also confirmed that the MFL Congress delegates supported the proposal to the government to allow spectators back into stadiums in a small scale beginning next season.

“I understand that sponsors are ready to come in if the government allows spectators back into stadiums next year,” he said.
