Food packs distributed in Tawau

A TOTAL of 2,300 sets of food aid have been distributed by the Federation of Chinese Associations Tawau (FCAT) and the Che Hsing Khor Moral Uplifting Society of Tawau to members and non-members. 

FCAT Chairman Datuk Dr Lim Teck Kiong said they had earlier distributed 1,500 sets food aid and another 800 sets in the second round last Saturday.

He thanked Kuala Lumpur-based OPS Harapan for sponsoring more than 20 tonnes of food items, Pos Malaysia for free shipping of the items, Guan Yin Temple Tawau and local business operators for their contributions for the “Covid-19 Charity Programme.”

Lim also invited Chinese associations to join FCAT, which has 46 members now, to jointly promote Chinese traditional culture and the unity spirit among the Chinese community.

Meanwhile, more than 25,000 food baskets have been distributed to residents in Pensiangan Parliament constituency that involved three State constituencies namely Sook, Nabawan and Tulid after the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy), Arthur Joseph Kurup who is also Pensiangan Member of Parliament, said the sixth phase of the contribution involved 2,600 household heads (KIR) that include also flood-affected residents.

“This is the government’s effort to help the people in my area that have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Residents that have yet to receive the aid were advised to be patient and come forward to register at their respective district offices to ensure that no one is marginalised.

Arthur also reminded the people to adhere to the standard operating procedure (SOP).
