Former Real Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz admits he pushed to sign Sergio Ramos from Sevilla when in charge.

Queiroz has no doubts how important Ramos has been for the club over the years.

"Look, I'm going to tell you a secret - something that I'm sure Florentino will be happy with," Queiroz began.

"When I arrived at Real Madrid, alongside Jorge Valdano, the first thing I tried to do was sign Sergio Ramos and Pepe... and if I'd have done it, I could still be the Real Madrid coach today [laughs].

"The big captain that I wanted to sign from the first day I arrived at Real Madrid. What more can I say about Sergio!"
