Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce says he's excited ahead of facing Carabao Cup opponents Brentford tomorrow night.

Bruce has demanded improvement from his side after they were beaten 5-2 at Leeds last week before being held to a 1-1 at home to Fulham on Saturday.

"I'm looking forward to it. We've got a wonderful opportunity to get to the semi-final of a cup so let's enjoy the challenge of it and see where we can go," said the Magpies boss.

"They [Brentford] a good team. I was disappointed with our last two games and we didn't play well enough.

"We didn't get anywhere near the levels required but this is a different challenge. Let's hope we can play well enough to get through."

Newcastle's last domestic trophy success was way back in 1955.

Bruce continued: "It's been far too long but we've given ourselves a chance.

"We know how difficult it'll be but let's have a crack, let's enjoy it and see where we get to.

"We've got to accept the challenge and make sure we get to a semi-final - how good would that be?"
