No panic buying in Sabah: KPDNHEP

Kota Kinabalu: The supply of basic necessities in Sabah is adequate at all levels – manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers and no unusual purchases by consumers are detected during inspections at customer – focused business premises conducted throughout the district in Sabah since Jan 9.

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) Sabah Director Georgie Abas said officers monitoring at each branch in the State said there was no panic buying reported at 192 public markets, 13 supermarkets and 140 grocery stores and mini markets in Sabah.

“We have been monitoring the supply of basic necessities including controlled goods such as sugar, cooking oil and flour since the commencement of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in March 2020 until now where the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) is still in force until Jan 14 in Sabah.

“A total of 200 enforcement officers and 90 price monitoring officers throughout the State were involved in these monitoring tasks and will continue to ensure that traders comply with the law enforced through daily inspections.
