Kota Kinabalu: Twenty individuals were penalised by the Magistrate’s Court here, Monday, for committing drug-related offences.Fifteen of them pleaded guilty to taking drugs while another five admitted to having syabu. The 15 were Sad Basalutin, Jaibon Miasin, Ahmad Mohammad, Phoong Seng Wai, Jove Mark, Aldrin Ebby, Erzam Osman, Yalni Yunus, Ismail Mading, Goh Chin Siang, Juhardi Ruding, Dorismah Danil, Erick Amsler, Sidney Laurence and Teh Beng Chee.

They were arrested at separate locations here and in Penampang between June 18, 2020 and Oct 2 the same year after they tested positive for syabu and amphetamine, respectively. Sad, Jaibon, Ahmad, Phong, Jove and Aldrin were jailed eight months each, Sidney and Teh were fined RM2,000 or eight months’ jail each while the rest were handed six months’ jail each. Taking drugs, under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act, provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years’ jail on conviction.

Meanwhile, the five, Flora Ramly, Sofian Andi, Siti Fauziah Noh, Daniel Charles and Dygku Ko Norashikin Rosli pleaded guilty to having syabu between June 15, 2020 and Sept 11 the same year. Flora was handed 16 months’ jail, Sofian received nine months’ jail while the rest were jailed eight months each. The five were charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years’ jail, or both, on conviction.
