Kota Kinabalu: A scrap metal collector was jailed a total of four months by the Magistrate’s Court here, Monday, on two counts of disposing of stolen items.Willy Kabumani, 34, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence on Oct 9, last year. On the first count, Willy was sentenced to two months’ jail for disposing an aluminium iron at 6am at a house in Kg Pondo, Pulau Gaya.

Willy, on the second count, was handed another two months’ jail for disposing of a stolen aluminium iron which stated the name of Marine Diesel Generating Set (Weichai) on it, at a house also in Kg Pondo, Pulau Gaya at 7.30pm on the same day. Each charge, under Section 414 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine, or both, on conviction. Unrepresented, Willy requested for a lenient sentence. The court ordered Willy to serve the sentence concurrently and ordered him to be referred to the Immigration Department thereafter.

Meanwhile, a man was fined RM1,000 or one month’s jail for dishonestly concealing someone else’s money in his bank account. Muhd Rizuan Romie admitted to removing RM400 belonging to one Raymond Chin to his bank account at 6.58pm on Aug 5, last year, in Penampang. The charge, under Section 424 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment of up to five years or with fine, or both, if found guilty. Rizuan, who was not represented, requested for leniency.
