Kota Kinabalu: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) crippled a contractor certificate issuance syndicate, with the arrest of four individuals including an assistant director of a federal agency, here, Monday.

Its Director Karunanithy Y. Subbiah said according to sources, the syndicate was believed to have been operating since a year ago.

“Among the documents issued via corruption are certificates like for registration of contractors, vendors and service providers, Construction Certificate of the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and Bumiputera status certificates.

“The applicants only need to pay a bribe of between RM500 and RM1,500 to certain government officials at the relevant agencies to expedite the issuance of the certificates without having to go through proper inspection and process.
