Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno Chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin (pic) advised the youth wings of both his party and Sabah Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) not to fight over party membership because it is anyone’s right and choice to be with any party they like. “We are in a democratic country. To me it is not easy to ‘buy’ members. It is up to the members, if they want to pick any party they like…people are free to choose. There is no need to quarrel,” said Bung, who is also Deputy Chief Minister I cum Works Minister. He was asked to comment on tension building up between Sabah Umno Youth and Sabah Bersatu Armada over accusations by Sabah Umno Youth that Bersatu “stole” its members.

It started with Umno National Youth Chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki accusing Bersatu of making attempts to “steal and buy” its members, followed by Sabah Umno Youth Chief Abdul Aziz Julkarnain claiming that Bersatu almost succeeded in luring all Sabah Umno members into joining the party during an exodus of almost all senior Sabah Umno members, including MPs and assemblymen, in December 2018.
