Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce says they paid for their errors in Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Leicester City.
James Maddison and Youri Tielemans helped Leicester beat Newcastle and move to within a point of the top of the Premier League.
Maddison fired in Jamie Vardy's pull-back from just inside the penalty area to break Newcastle's resistance before Tielemans curled home from 20 yards after Marc Albrighton's pass.
Andy Carroll's equally impressive volley reduced the deficit, his first goal since rejoining Newcastle in August 2019.
Bruce said, "We gave the ball away cheaply on both occasions and Leicester punished us.
"The one thing you don't want to do when you are having arguably your best spell after half-time is give the ball away. It's something we have to improve on.
"I didn't think we deserved to lose the game but we have been punished and caught on the counter-attack. It's what we want to do but we keep getting caught the other way."
