8 new Covid-19 clusters including 1 in Nabawan; 7 involving workplaces

PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has detected eight new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today.

In a statement, he said seven of them were workplace clusters, while the remaining one was a community cluster, FMT reported.

Three of the clusters were detected in Johor, two in Penang and one each in Selangor, Perak and Sabah.

The cluster that reported the most infections today was the Industri Sungai Gadut cluster in Negeri Sembilan with 1,338 new cases involving local and foreign factory workers.

The eight new clusters are: 

Johor     

Jalan Ulu Choh – a workplace cluster in Pontian. Two positive cases were reported on Feb 21 through a screening of symptomatic individuals. The cluster involves a factory in Jalan Ulu Choh, Pekan Nanas. A total of 190 workers were screened, with 34 found positive.    

Perindustrian Lukut – a workplace cluster in Kota Tinggi. Positive cases were reported on Feb 24 after a targeted screening of workers at a factory in Kawasan Perindustrian Lukut. So far, 239 individuals have been screened, with 28 testing positive.    

Jalan Dato Yunus – a workplace cluster in Johor Bahru. Positive cases were reported on Feb 24 after a targeted screening of workers at a factory in the Kawasan Perindustrian Dato Yunus Sulaiman, Gelang Patah. Of the 30 people screened, eight were found positive. 

Penang     

Lorong Bakau – a workplace cluster in Seberang Perai Selatan. Positive cases were reported on Feb 24 after a targeted screening on workers at a factory in Kawasan Perusahaan Perabot, Sungai Bakap. So far, 297 people were screened, with 50 found to be positive.    

Vista Hilir – a workplace cluster involving Timur Laut and Barat Daya. Positive cases were reported on Feb 15 after a targeted screening on workers at a factory in Hilir Sungai Kluang 2, Zon Perindustrian Bebas Bayan Lepas, Barat Daya. Of the 154 people screened, 35 tested positive. 

Selangor     

Jalan Enam – a workplace cluster in Petaling. Positive cases were reported on Feb 7 after a targeted screening on workers at a factory along Jalan SU 6A, Shah Alam. A total of 173 people were screened, with 15 testing positive. 

Sabah     

Sinsingon – a community cluster in Nabawan. Three cases were reported positive on Feb 23 after a screening in a dormitory. All three cases had attended a funeral in Kampung Sinsingon that took place from Feb 17 to 20. Some 106 individuals were screened, with 18 found to be positive. 

Perak     

Pasar Bidor – a workplace cluster in Batang Padang. The index case, who is a trader at a market in Bidor, tested positive on Feb 28. Of the 112 people screened, 25 tested positive.
