Aston Villa boss Dean Smith says Wesley is closer to a playing return.
The Brazilian hasn't been seen since New Year's Day of last year in the 2-1 win at Burnley in which he scored but suffered the knee injury that has sidelined him ever since.
Treatment from the club's sports science and physio team is ongoing, but in the meantime there have been unforeseen set-backs.
“Everyone came through the week fit from last week, so it's an unchanged squad going into the [Brighton] game," boss Dean Smith confirmed.
“Wesley's had some manipulation on his knee, which has certainly helped and he'll be back on the training ground next week."
