Everton are taking their time to open new contract talks with Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Liverpool Echo says Sigurdsson is part of a list of players whose contracts run out in the summer of 2022.

Typically, when a player has less than 18 months left to run on a deal, talks have already begun - at least with those who are wanted.

Bernard, James Rodriguez, Seamus Coleman, Fabian Delph and Jonjoe Kenny are there with him.

Bernard was all set to leave in the winter window but a deal collapsed, Coleman is club captain and would be expected to earn an extension, Rodriguez has the option of an extra year in his deal while Kenny is out on loan and Delph has hardly played because of injury.

verton have yet to formally hold talks about Sigurdsson's contract situation. It is on their to-do-list but given there appears no major rush, could be an indication of which way the wind is blowing.

Or at least what type of deal the Blues would be prepared to offer.
