Joe Willock was delighted to be part of Newcastle United's 3-2 defeat of Southampton.

The on-loan Arsenal midfielder scored in the first half to celebrate his first outing with a goal and three points.

Willock, speaking to BT Sports, said: "It was a big fight, a big push from the boys.

"We went down to nine and we had to stick with it. The first half was brilliant. I'm delighted to be here and happy to win.

"[Steve Bruce] said stick together, go two packs of four and grind it out.

"We stuck together, stuck to our guns and we got the result we needed.

"We're really happy with the three points and it's on to next week."

And speaking about his goal, Willock thanked Allan Saint-Maximin for a fine assist.

He said: "I told Maxi [Allan Saint-Maximin] that when he gets past the full-back, cut it back and I'll be there and that was what he did. I'm delighted.

"The boss told me get in the box and score goals and I'm happy to do that. I'm taking it game by game.

"I want to help the team get where they should be in the table."
