Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce admits shaking up his formation is getting the best from Miguel Almiron.

Bruce has taken the brake off his side in the last four games, and they've poured forward creating chances.

Paraguay international Almiron is playing at the head of a diamond in midfield, almost as a false No9, with Callum Wilson and Allan Saint Maximin running wider channels.

Bruce said: “Over the last few weeks, with the change in formation and system, the one person who has benefitted from it all is Almiron.

“He's been terrific in what we're trying to set out. He scored against Leeds.

“He's been here a couple of years, he's a great pro, a great lad. A joy to work with.

“My job would be easy if they were all like Almiron.

“He's playing very, very well at the moment, which is pleasing. You need your big players to stand up in tough times and certainly Miggy has proved very good for us."
