Kota Kinabalu: Three men including a policeman were killed in a crash at the Jalan Marabahai Spur junction along the Berungis - Tenghilan route in Tuaran today.

Tuaran District Police chief DSP Mohd Hamizi Halim said the accident at 8.01 am involved three vehicles, namely a motorcycle, a Perodua Kancil and a Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) lorry.

The dead victims were identified as Jul Amri Samsudin, 25, and Il Yasa Samsudin, 35, who were on the motorcycle; while Corporal Shamsully Adly, 45, from the Kota Belud Police Station, was driving the Kancil.

"At the time of the incident, the MAF lorry was on its way from Tamparuli to Tenghilan, when a motorcycle suddenly came out of the Jalan Marabahai Spur junction on the front-left of the MAF lorry.

"The MAF lorry driver did not have time to steer clear and collided with the motorcycle, which was then dragged into the opposite lane," he said in a statement, here today.

Mohd Hamizi said both the victims on the motorcycle suffered severe head and body injuries and died at the scene.

He said the MAF lorry also collided with the Kancil driven by the policeman heading in the opposite direction, and the latter was trapped in his vehicle before being confirmed dead at the scene.

He added that all three bodies were taken to the Tuaran Hospital and the case was being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
