The tournament of all tournaments has returned. The Champions League is back and it is the stage where every football player wishes to perform on. We at the Kickstox HQ can’t wait to see some epic matches and we firmly believe there will be some stellar performances, as well as some severe disappointments. That’s what the Champions League brings out in people. Who can handle the pressure?
These are the top three picks for the first day of Champions League football!
The biggest game if you look at stature is the match between FC Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain. The match is a repeat of the famous La Remontada, where Barcelona managed to miraculously go to the next round beating PSG 6-1 after a harsh 4-0 defeat in the first leg.
We as fans can only hope for that much spectacle and goals again, and one person who we think is going to be key, is Barca’s Frenkie de Jong. Even though Barcelona's season is far from glamorous, one shining light has been the uprising of Frenkie de Jong. Coach Ronald Koeman has posted de Jong in a more attacking role this season and that choice has paid off seeing as de Jong already netted 5 goals this season and besides that, we know de Jong to be one of the best passers in the game.
We know he will be motivated to score his first in the Champions League whilst dominating the midfield and at a price of €12.375 and a beatable expected match rating of 6.5, he is someone to look out for.
For our second tip we head over to Hungary. RB Leizpig will be playing Liverpool and die Roten Bullen will firmly believe in their chances to get a result against Jürgen Klopp’s men, who are having a poor streak at the moment.
One player who is keen to prove himself is Yussef Poulsen. The Danish forward is known as a serious attacking threat who is able to score goals and five assists. Even though he only has one goal and one assist in this campaign, he will be on the hunt for more.
Poulsen is the cheapest option in this list at €9.110 and he will need to have a poor performance should he not exceed his expected match rating of 5.9.
Finally, we have a well-known player from the same match RB Leipzig vs Liverpool.
This time we look at a player from the Reds, in particular, Roberto Firmino. The well-known striker is an integral part of the attacking play that Liverpool want to play and have played so successfully in the past.
The reason we put Firmino in here as our final top tip is because if there is anyone more eager to perform well in his next match, it's him. Firmino has yet to score or give an assist this Champions League season and although that might have some traders worried, Firmino has proven himself countless times on the highest stage we call the Champions League.
Our tip: buy him now at €10.271 as we think he will score or assist at least one goal and crush his expected match rating of 6.3.
