Kota Kinabalu: A 44-year-old foreign man was sentenced to eight years’ jail by the Sessions Court here on Tuesday for robbing an elderly man of RM500.

Tos Abdul pleaded guilty before Judge Azreena Aziz to robbing one Lo Vui Kien of the money at 6pm on Oct 30, 2020 at the five-foot-way next to the pork market at the central market here.

The prosecution in tendering the facts of the case, told the court that Tos yanked Lo’s wallet containing the cash but he was caught by members of the public and was handed to police.

Tos was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to 14 years and whipping on conviction.

Unrepresented, Tos requested for a lenient sentence and that the sentence to be run from the date of his arrest.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nureen Natasha Mohd Raffie, prosecuting, applied for a deterrent sentence due to the rampancy of the offence and that the victim in the case was an elderly man.

The court also ordered Tos to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving his sentence.
