Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed Filipino was sentenced 15 months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for molesting a woman.Abu Abdul Raji, 37, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to committing the crime on a 24-year-old woman at 6.30pm on Jan 17 this year in front of Ruby Inn hotel at Kg Air here. Abu committed an offence under Section 354 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years or fine or whipping or any two of such punishment on conviction.
According to the prosecution, Abu was arrested by police for the offence on Jan 24 following a report lodged by the victim. The court also ordered Abu to be referred to the Immigration Department after completing his sentence. In another case, a 24-year-old woman was fined RM4,000 or eight months jail for having 4.62gm of cannabis.
Nur Ariesha Ernieda Jasuli admitted before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having the drugs at 8.25pm on Jan 22 in front of a hotel along Jalan Bypass in Penampang. Nur was charged under Section 6 of the Dangerous Drugs Act which provides for a fine of up to RM20,000 or up to five years jail or both on conviction. The court was informed by the prosecution that Nur handed to police a cigarette packet from the pocket of her shirt which later found to be dried leaves believed to be cannabis.
The dried leaves were then sent for analysis at the Chemist Department, which later found to be cannabis that weighed 4.62gm. Inspectors Albert Basiri and Suzie @ Stephanie Kupit prosecuted.
