Kota Kinabalu: The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) proposed that political parties registered in Malaysia be eligible to be funded by taxpayers’ funds at a webinar to launch its research report “Public Funding of Political Parties in Malaysia” in a bid to reduce corruption, abuse to keep power and party hopping.

At present, the Election Offences Act 1954 (EOA) only regulates campaign spending by candidates during election campaigns, whereas spending by political parties and others are left largely unregulated, the watchdog group said.
