By-election for Sebatik if Speaker accepts rep's pre-signed resignation letter, says Shafie

Kota Kinabalu: There may be a by-election for Sebatik if the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly accepts a pre-signed letter of resignation of the constituency's elected representative Hassan A. Gani Pg Amir, said Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

Shafie said the party will send the letter to the State Legislative Assembly "very soon" and a copy of the letter will be handed to the Head of State and Election Commission.

Shafie said the letter was signed by Hassan on Sept 10, 2020 during nomination of Warisan's candidates for the 16th State election that included the latter's pledge of loyalty to the party.

A video showing Hassan signing the letter went viral on social media recently in which he stated that if he chose to join another political party or declare himself as an independent during his term or if he is sacked from the party, he would relinquish his post.
